UK has begun studying a new strategy for treatment of Parkinson’s disease and if it proves to be successful, could change the entire landscape for people and their families that are battling this disease. The treatment strategy is aiming to slow down and even reverse brain degenration.  Currently there is no proven treatment or cure for this disease so this research is very exciting news for not only the folks at the University of Kentucky, but the entire world.
According to UKNOW, Parkinson’s is one of the most common neurological disorders, affecting around one million Americans and 10 million individuals worldwide. The disease is progressive and degenerative, wherein the death of brain cells causes an array of motor and non-motor symptoms, most recognizably tremor, rigidity, slow movement and unstable posture.
It is also relieving to know that the patients that are being used in the clinical trials are getting this treatment at no cost to them.  This is thanks to insurance covering all of the procedures that they may receive and the low cost that it takes to conduct the trials.
