New community radio station goes on air in North Lexington

Screen Shot 2015-09-22 at 4.45.56 PMA new community radio station that obtained its license through the recent federal Low Power FM licensing process went on the air in North Lexington over the weekend.
WLXL-LPFM 95.7 is one of two radio stations that a non-profit called Lexington Community Radio will start in the STEAM Academy building on Sixth Street near North Limestone.
The launch of the new station on Saturday featured on-air interviews with local celebrities and officials including broadcaster Sue Wylie, WKYT anchor Barbara Bailey, Poet Frank X Walker, Vice Mayor Steve Kay, former Herald-Leader columnist Merlene Davis and others.
The launch program was hosted by Patrick “Friday” Mitchell, who is known as a DJ on the former urban station U-102.
