The acoUstiKats received some big news yesterday. The UK a cappella group was chosen as one of ten groups to perform on NBC’s, “The Sing-Off” this December. The reality show features top a cappella groups from across the nation competing in front of celebrity judges Ben Folds, from Ben Folds Five, Jewel and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men.
The acoUstiKats have sang at various venues across the country and continue to take their talents around UK’s campus, but this will be the first time they perform on national television.
Baritone and marketing coordinator for the group, Jeremy Lewis tweeted that he was, “incredibly humbled and excited” for the opportunity.
According to the press release by NBC Entertainment, there will be seven episodes for the groups to compete, with the two-hour finale scheduled for Dec. 23. The winners receive a prize of $100,000 as well as a Sony Music recording contract.
“The Sing-Off”, hosted by Nick Lachey, is in it’s fourth season. The first episode will air at 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.
