UK Women Receive No. 3 Seed In NCAA Tourney

UK Women Receive No. 3 Seed In NCAA Tourney

It has been a bittersweet weekend for the UK women’s soccer team.
They went into the SEC title game against Texas A&M on an eight-game winning streak and a chance to walk away with the school’s first SEC Championship victory since 1995. Unfortunately, the Wildcats lost a 0-1 heartbreaker to the Aggies, the title alluding them for yet another season.
Despite the loss, the Wildcats still went into the weekend with an opportunity to make history. The Lady Wildcats had never before received a NCCA Tournament national seed in the tournament’s current alignment. With the team’s 15-6 record, their chances seemed high.  When their names were called on the Sunday selection show, history had indeed been made.
The Wildcats received the No. 3 national seed in the Charlottesville, Va. Regional. Their first game will be against the Southern Illinois University Cougars at Edwardsville on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. If they are able to come out with a victory, the Wildcats will face the winner of the Northern Arizona/Arizona State match.
This is the fourth-straight year that UK has made it to postseason play, which is a school-record. This is also the first time the Cats have ever faced the Cougars in program history.
