Michelle Alexander to visit UK

Civil rights advocate, Michelle Alexander, will speak about her newest book Wednesday at 7 p.m.  The discussion of “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness” will be held in UK’s College of Law Courtroom.
The skewed “incarceration of African-American men is a travesty of justice.” says Dr. Feist-Price, one of the event organizers.  Price says Alexander’s book analyzes how discriminatory practices in legal sentencing, housing, and educational challenges have created a new segregation.
Alexander began her law career working with Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the United States Supreme Court. Alexander, is a professor at Ohio State University College of Law, and OSU’s Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity.
The event is free and open to the public.  The UK College of Law and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Center are the hosts of the talk.
