Before pouring into the off-campus student neighborhoods for their end-of-semester parties, UK students might want to venture to the corner of Woodland and Euclid Friday night. This weekend Cosmic Charlies is bringing in a treat from Tennessee.
Friday at 9 p.m. Knoxville’s Same As It Ever Was will perform at Cosmic Charlies. The band were regulars at Lexington’s now-defunct The Dame music club on Main Street.
Attendees can expect to see a high-energy, extended performance that draws extensively from the Talking Heads, a pop-punk-new wave combo that dominated radio airwaves in the 1970s and 1980s and enjoyed the fame that the nascent MTV network allowed them. Beloved hits like “Psycho Killer”, “Once In a Lifetime”, “Life During Wartime” and “Wild Wild Life” regularly appear in their set lists.
Though their sets are generally dominated by material written and performed by the Talking Heads, Same As It Ever Was occasionally surprises audiences by playing tunes by Radiohead, Phish and Beck.
The event is $10 at the door and open to patrons 18-years-old and up.
