Once again, UK students trekked to class on snowy streets and sidewalks.
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County government says city emergency and road crews are continuing to treat and clear Lexington streets and to assist motorists, according to a news release. While priority roads are being treated, secondary roads remain slick.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 4:00 p.m. Snow will taper off in the evening, but some roads will remain slick. One to three inches of accumulation is expected.
Since 6:00 a.m., the Lexington Division of Police has responded to 7 injury accidents and 30 non-injury accidents, including a major accident that closed Leestown Road which has since been cleared.
Kevin Wente, Administrative Officer for the Department of Public Works, said in a news release that the city supply of salt treatment is good, but more is on backorder from a Louisville supplier and arriving daily. In addition, the LFUCG has a second salt supplier on backorder.
