The UK football team (4-4, 1-4 Southeastern Conference) lost their fourth SEC game Saturday versus Georgia and with it, presumably their chance for an SEC East division title.
The challenge facing the Cats now is whether they can pick themselves up with four games left in the season.
“Deep down, you could kind of tell people were disappointed,” senior quarterback Mike Hartline said. “It kind of felt like the Ole Miss game, but it wasn’t the same. We gave (Saturday’s) game away too quickly, too fast…still, you’ve got to be happy with the way guys are giving effort and still playing hard.”
Thanks to three first-half fumbles, UK trailed 28-3 at one point in the first half and later 28-10 at halftime. Although the Cats managed to come back from an 18-point deficit a week prior against No.10 South Carolina, the hole they dug versus Georgia proved to be insurmountable en route to a 44-31 loss.
However, morale is still high among the players and coaches, who stated at Monday’s weekly news conference that they believe that getting to a better, January bowl game is still very much a possibility.
