Former UK men’s basketball assistant coach Rod Strickland will leave head coach John Calipari’s staff to work as an assistant coach at DePaul, Strickland’s alma mater, according to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday.
Strickland, a former All-American at DePaul, joins head coach Oliver Purnell’s staff after nine seasons coaching under Calipari. Strickland joined Calipari’s staff in 2005 as Director of Basketball Operations while the tandem was still at Memphis, and would later become a special assistant to Calipari when the two departed for Kentucky. Strickland was a coach on three Final Four teams, including UK’s 2012 national championship team.
