WRFL radio station, located inside UK’s Student Center, will welcome First Lady Jane Beshear to the studio tonight. Beshear will be a guest on the station’s weekly Campus Voices broadcast, which discusses issues that affect those on UK’s campus and around the Lexington area.
This week’s show will discuss the issue of raising the high school dropout age in Kentucky. The First Lady was a very vocal proponent of the recently failed House Bill 225, better known as “the graduation bill,” which would have raised the state’s dropout age from 16 to 18 by the year 2016.
Other guests will include state education commissioner Terry Holliday and the director for the Martin Luther King Junior Academy for Excellence Mark Sellers. The broadcast can be heard tonight from 5:30 to 6 p.m. on 88.1 FM.
Campus Voices is produced, broadcast and reported by the students of Journalism 304 Broadcast Decision-Making with Prof. Scoobie Ryan of the School of Journalism and Telecommunications. It is hosted by WRFL-FM News Director Alex Suckow, broadcast journalism major from Northern Kentucky.
