Today is National Signing Day and multiple high school football prospects from across the country will be signing their letters of intent to join a college or university to further their football careers.
In the advent of the recent news that Kentucky redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Mossakowski will be transferring to another school, speculation is surrounding the UK football program to see if coach Phillips will sign a quarterback for the 2011 class. Mossakowski was a highly touted recruit from Texas who hadn’t seen much playing time at UK and is one of the reasons he has decided to take his talents elsewhere.
Among the 16 recruits coming to Kentucky will be Theltus “Bookie” (BOO-kee) Cobbins, a dual-threat quarterback that can beat you with his feet as well as his arm. The New Orleans, LA native played his high school football at McDonough 35 high school. The 6-foot, 188-pound quarterback accounted for 10 passing and one rushing touchdowns in four games as a senior before suffering a season ending injury.
Local four-star offensive lineman Zach West is also planning to stay close to home and play for UK next season. The 6-foot-four, 275-pound West played his high school football right here in Lexington at Lexington Christian Academy (LCA).
Another player planning to join the Cats next football season is verbally committed three/four-star athlete Jon Davis. The 6-foot-two, 235-pound Davis is played high school at Eastern in Louisville. Davis is said to be a well rounded player who could wear “a number of hats” on the football squad.
Another big catch today for the Wildcats football program was three-star running back Marcus Caffey out of Atlanta, GA.
So far Kentucky football has 16 signees and is awaiting the decisions of some other players yet to commit. You can follow all the latest commitments throughout the day at www.ukathletics.com.
