UK is hoping to reduce its “carbon footprint” by making environmental improvements to campus buildings. The project is expected to take a year and should cost about $25 million.
Changes will be made to 61 buildings totaling more than 5 million square feet. UK officials says the environmental benefit will be roughly the equivalent of taking 45,000 cars off the road, planting 62,000 acres of trees or powering 5,000 homes every year.
President Todd announced that much of the university would close three days early for the holiday break. He is hoping this will add to the energy savings.
